In BSG there was a wall along the bulkhead that had photos of the missing and dead.

Was watching one of the DVD episodes last night... Starbuck and Apollo had regrets about not remembering the fallen Viper pilots; most of the pilots were on that wall.

It's a secret Furkind code symbol. In this instance it means "Deceased."

A little surprised there's no traces of vandalism on this wall. I'm sure there are some H1-type twits that would find it amusing to disfigure these mementos and memorials. (There would also be some who would just watch and laugh at the memorials themselves.)

I'm hoping this doesn't start any drama, however; I find it a little distressing that so far, the only referential mentions made in regards to this phenomenon are about a fictional television series, when they're such an awful reality in our very real world. New York, New Orleans, Kobe, Santiago, Beruit ... name any place where the devastation is so huge, or the infrastructure has collapsed, and communications failed, and you'll find walls like this.


Apologies in advance to steamfox for the angst; you can tell it's an effective piece, since it's affected me a bit strongly (having seen such walls in person in the past).

There was a traveling exhibit that I saw in New Orleans back in 2003 that consisted of all the fliers and posters for the missing/dead from 9/11. As for Katrina, the symbols that were painted on homes tended to be the symbols that have been maintained on many homes since as a way of remembering.

Reminds me of the wall in the Nashville TN drill center. It is not so big or crowded but I knew all of them. My picture has more than once nearly been on such a wall.
