Thank you the welds are not the best looking but then again the 1 pound gun I'm running it's about three-quarters wore out and will not feed consistently. To have good-looking welds with aluminum you need a consistent feed on the wire feed and the one pound gun I'm using just doesn't cut it.

Is it the feed crown bushings? Or bearings? I've never welded aluminum, but I know even with steel if it's not feeding right you can forget about maintaining a good pool... I can only imagine what aluminum is like!

The gun needs rebuilding and that's an off breed gun that you can't really get parts for anymore, I have toyed with the idea of bringing my Miller in that I've Got a Brand New wire feed for but I don't want the clowns that I work with mucking up my expensive welder

Yeah you're probably right, with a feeder that's working right they should be real consistent but I know it's not going to break anytime soon and that's my concern.

I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my welds, and I was hoping they'd look a lot prettier than what they do, it's pride in the job well done.

400a TIG supply and I could get that one plate welded out in 20min or so, once into the rhythm
No doubt the spoolgun's got you done in about 3 minutes, I've just never used one. Pushing 045 through a 10' liner just doesn't lend itself to a good time.

We have an old Snap-on wire feed with a 1 pound gun that is worn out. I have welded with a Miller 10A feeder and an 8-foot cable hose and it worked out quite well although I think we were pushing 3/64 wire.

The problem with doing Tig is time and you heat up a whole lot of aluminum and take any heat treating out of the aluminum and actually where I had to weld and everything took me about 5 to 10 minutes to weld it up

that's a massive weld....
