also this was somewhat inspired by a story I read about a girl stealing a neckless, and going all "lord of the rings" and gradually turning into a beefy diamond dog as she scrambled to hide "the precious". I'd link to that but I can't remember who wrote it/where it is. of course this is not quite like that, but still.
