Please, for your own good, read the story first.
Taming the Beast
All this rambling only makes sense once you experienced it thoroughly.
So.
Is that happily ever after then?
Well, I would say, if you were very much relieved by the written conclusion, preferring it that way, maybe stop here.
If there is just an ounce of some tickling doubt deep down, be my guest.
If you give it some thought, that's a precarious situation at best.
Remember Karl?
Or are you wholly certain that the unnamed protagonist nobleman's resolve wouldn't just falter a few days down?
Well...
Now give it one deep breath. Maybe two.
Is the happily ever after even a true, honest, no catch happily ever after?
Frankly, I would say, no.
Very much no for our gluttonous majesty.
Just consider it for real. What sorts of slowly developing ailments he may carry due to that hefty bulk of his. Wearing down his skeletal system, all his joints. And even if he didn't, old age in such a state may not be nice. To eventually collapse under his own mass.
Slowly his life would turn into hell, and without real remedy at that. Dropping that hefty bulk off by a painful long diet of course could help, but frankly, kind of becoming a very much consumed, fragile shell, a bitter remnant of the former glorious days.
If one was truly into this, then I think this would wholly apply:
Live fast, die young (and leave a good looking corpse)!
So have that big ol' hammer ready to smash ye skull when you are on the pinnacle, as there is only long, painful tumbling fall all around.
For him, that's it.
Sure there is no harm in dragging it out a bit, maybe even a few more pounds for his sizable flabby gut he loves so much, to let him savor every fine hour, which he would be so eager to do like the hedonist voluptuous glutton he is, but for him, the happy end is honestly that, a swift passing right there, on the very pinnacle.
At least if by some miracle I had all that he had in this story, I would say so. Smite me down hard before that inevitable long, painful tumbling fall.
Maybe puts it all under a somewhat different light.
Thankfully the story is purposely such that one could easily conclude it to this sort of "happy ending", well, for him at least.
If Karl did it, he probably wouldn't be reprimanded much. The protagonist is rather pragmatic, and he may well see it as he just accomplished which he messed up.
If the protagonist storyteller did it, maybe that could have given him the most of those hours, days to savor, well rounded up, arranged to finish off proper at the pinnacle, likely involving a decent load of pleasant blissful indulgence. Karl certainly wouldn't interfere if he saw the plan going on.
Well, Jared would for sure be totally crushed, heartbroken. I guess no need to tell why. A deep scar whose mark he would carry into his grave.
And Mike? Duh! He definitely was just a filler.
That's about it I guess.
And now some entirely different manner.
Just some bits on the morals.
It is very important that albeit he is rather simple-minded, he has a highly developed intelligence.
This is intentionally so. I purposely kept adding those little details, shaping his character, conveying that he is thoroughly aware of himself, and uses his thought to knowingly savor the pleasantries of his life.
He is definitely, purposely not a simple animal without such capabilities, not that I deny animals such. Dolphins in particular may very well have some similar qualities to this imaginary dragon, just that it is not that common, and likely depends greatly on the individual.
Like he certainly was unlike of most of the dragons, having a strong hedonist kink in him which was suddenly given the opportunity to have just all he wanted.
His mate? I imaged her bonding with him before, just there was no opportunity to really convey it. That she had known his character, and found some wicked, exciting enjoyment in experiencing it working out in this manner.
Well, that would be it all.
After all, just a bit of light entertainment.
Hope you appreciated it, if you read these, maybe even a little more so. Or maybe a bit annoyed that you imagined it differently, well, that could be! Sorry I was rambling here, then!
