Oh man, I have wanted to draw this dude for soooooo long but never got the opportunity to do so. Now with the Archie comic coming to an end and the IDW faction opened up, I just had to show my appreciation for this awesome character. Razor is such a fun model to work on as he has a few differences from the majority of the Sonic cast. I learned a ton about how to draw more “aquatic” Mobians while working on him. (Side note: It’s amazing how few of them wear gloves.)
When I sat down to pen this monster I knew I wanted to accomplish two goals. The first is that the scene had to be underwater, and the second was I wanted this fish to look as feral and intimidating as possible. I accomplished both of these pursuits and I am very much pleased with the end result. I simply fell in love with this character through the comics. His personality, his rough relationship with other characters, his pirate backstory, his even more dangerous older sister! It’s all great stuff. The man even has a chao companion! How boss is that!
Speaking of the sidekick, Crusher the chao is a fun little character in his own right. The little guy can be downright aggressive and mean, traits that I don’t think I have ever seen associated with a chao. (Not even the masters of Chao Karate could claim such an attitude as their own!) He is a wonderful addition that helps flesh out the lure of the world. Chao can be many things, just like mobians.
I’m trying to send as much love as I can towards these Archie characters in hopes of keeping their spirits alive. I really hope a lot of them find their way to the next comic universe. It would be a shame to lose so many great characters.
