Dr. Akai is an obsessive researcher, going through great pains to understand the subjects of his studies. Even while stranded on some primitive world he finds acceptance among the local populace who assume him to be some sort of god, or a benevolent demon, or something that wandered out of Faerie. He makes himself useful by doing odd jobs, and has recently taken up woodcutting. Frustrated by coming out with uneven pieces he decides to carry around a log with him and study it, go understand the essential nature of its....log-ness. He hopes that this way he can perform the perfect cut. It all seems perfectly logical to him....the villagers that have come to accept him just write it off as another of his eccentricities.
