There are places in Japan, where the spirits gather, and they sing and dance and play. Kitsune and Tanuki were particularly prone to such things.
In this picture Tanuki is beating his belly as a drum, Kitsune sings, while
's Moonseeker plays his flute, calling forth the lost spirits of children to come and play with them. These spirits are of lost children, and were known to be both helpful or spiteful, depending on how and why they had died.

When you first showed me Moon, you remember how I said he looked like some kind of Japanese spirit creature... Ive been dying to do something like this... This wasn't completely what I had originally in mind, My original idea was him sitting on a gravestone in a graveyard with a kitsune and spirits dancing through the gravestones, but somehow that turned into this... >.> XD
It is a Tanuki. Both in that Gif and here. Tanuki traditionally have very large balls. There are tons of legends that involve Tanuki and their testicles, from using them as drums, to using them as a weapon in battle. That particular Gif was for a Japanese 'Love Hotel' (gotta love the japanese). And seeing as Tanuki is often considered to be very verile, they of course used him in the commercial.
