I think the whole piece is beautiful, and the water is extremely well done, if I could suggest anything it might be to lighten the darkest part of the water by covering it with some seaspray maybe? That might help with it standing out because of the contrast.

well her face and her shoulder (your left when looking at it) seem rather large for her body

ummm, maybe putting her on a gradient type layer where she fades into the background a bit would help. I suggest fading and blending the edges of her hair into the water.

That's not her shoulder. xD That's her arm curled up, and her hand folded. That's gonna get changed, most likely. I hated it the more I worked on it.

I think seaspray is a good idea, as suggested earlier. I also agree that the dress matching the pearls exactly wasn't the best idea.

The hair looks obviously drawn and fake, as it's just sitting on top of the water. It's very apparent that the water was kind of an after thought - like you drew her, then just stuck the water in the back (although the water is gorgeous).

Maybe give her some blue/gray tones so she matches the scenery more.

*nods* Yeah. I was thinking of doing some underlighting that was acutally sea colored. I couldn't figure out how to warp her tail in photoshop yet. I've got to do some research on refraction, but yeah, I know what you're saying.

I'm also thinking of desaturating -everything-. This is getting Lisa Frank. xD

Also, I'll probably do an overlayer on the hair with the brush tool in SAI as a means of texture, so it looks somewhat less plastic. OR I'm going to de-realize the water, once I figure out how. xD

welll the water seems a bit turbulent, perhaps you could make the hair a bit more animated as well? kind of like that "mystic float" that you'll see in some anime scenes(the hair, anyway) mixed with..er... Hmmmm... a few strands finding their own path? I dunno. xD
