From the journal of Capt. Alexandria Volkova, VVS, Ret. Handler
Svetlana and Alina are sisters from the same mated pair, [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], but not in a true sense of the word 'twins, as they were actually born two years/clutches apart from one another, with Alina being the youngest. Svetlana being born in 1979, with Alina in 1981. I raised the both of them between marriages, and just like their mother, they were real sparkplugs alone, but when the two of the met and became inseparable, they became very well-coordinated devils in the sky.
They first began as Su-27As in the later years of the USSR, and well into the early-mid 1990s, but underwent thorough refitting and upgrades in the late 90s and early 2000s, effectively turning them into Su-27Ms, the forerunners to the more modern and advanced Su-35 line.
Lana is the typical bigger, older sister in the duo. She's considered 'wiser' than Alina, but she's the more brash of the two, much more prone to losing her temper. Alina on the other hand, is more naive and clumsy than Lana, but she's able to keep her head on straight than Lana is. Although they're seen working well together, they do have a tendency of bickering, and sometimes at the worst possible times. By today's standards, they both exhibit punkish behaviors, make a colorful use of foul language, doing little to set themselves apart from Gopniks.
They don't exactly think very highly of the new, crowing Sukhoi-57 line either, viewing them as a 'cheap mimicry' of the American Raptors, the latter of whom and their other western counterparts I'm not sure if they get along with either. They've still got a lot of the same fire they had from the olden days.
In modern day Russia, SamDati (Samolet Soldati), of the Soviet Era are designated specially as "PFs", and are marked as such. It literally and simply means "Pre-Federation", for both obvious and specific reasons, as Soviet and Federation-era SamDati both are 'programmed' and maintained differently. This doesn't necessarily mean forced retirement, but it does put SamDati of this era on a sort of watchlist.
When relations between the US and Russia dramatically thawed through the 90s and early 2000s, doctrines for training SamDati for the new era followed suit.
Soviet-Era SamDati, particularly from the Brezhnev era and the early 1980s, exhibit behavior and training that reflected the escalating tensions between the US and USSR at the time, which also resulted in many SamDati exhibiting massive superiority complexes and distrust towards Western SamDati. These traits would trickle down into the last generation of Soviet-Era SamDati until the USSR dissolved and more positive attitudes toward the West were almost forced on them.
Early Federation-Era SamDati from the mid 1990s exhibit a much warmer reception of their western counterparts, which were seen as a hallmark for improving relations. Although a controversial move, many SamDati of this generation were encouraged to pick up English. For all intents and purposes, the malice and superiority complex the previous generation was famous for became all but phased out, or at least it wasn't taught or encouraged in the basic doctrine for new SamDati.
Both Lana and Alina and other PFs still serve proudly in the Aerospace forces today, their careers are in their steadily marching through their sunset years with the dawn of much more modern SamDati, such as the Sukhoi-35 , and next-gen Sukhoi-57 line.
I've been itching to do a standalone image of these two for a long time now, since they made their debut in NYS2, but never initially went with it since I originally decided they'd just be one-off characters, but I grew to like them the longer I drew them and then later grew to regret not doing an official debut image for them.
But here they are! Revamped, and (due to a slight oversight I made with the name since it was on the spot at the time) renamed! Going from Irina to Alina!
Had this in the works a while now, but I'm glad with how it turned out!
Expect multiple versions of this down the road, there's a few coming!

Hell, I'd say the West is responsible for some of the uglier things to take to the sky, in my opinion.
I mean, remember the time BAe tried to make an AWACS out of the Nimrod?

It's got a goddamn clown nose!

Very interesting to see a much more detailed accounting of your aero’s history included in a debut pinup. Any thoughts to going back and adding some history to your previous aeromorph characters you’ve made over the years?
I like the backstory to Lana and Alina though. It “explains” why their personality’s are what they are nicely.
