Nine of Swords - AKA: Lord of Cruelty

Oh my, I love this project so much! It’s a collaborative project which combines two of my favorite things. It also gave me the chance to have fun with some of the darker lore of Pokemon. In this case, we have Banette’s lore. Little Banette is kept up all night with insomnia. All he can think about are all the sweet ‘mons he has cursed while he took his mega form. Worst of all, he has cursed his trainer, the one person who took him in and loved him. His mega form will forever haunt him, the curse hurts him more than it ever hurt anyone else. Mega Banette places the ninth pin into little Banette at the head, reminding the viewer, cruelty often turns inward, resulting in suffering which festers in the mind.

Traditionally, the swords for this card would be colored scarlet. Pins are really more of Banette’s thing though, so we have pins with scarlet tops. Fits well, since astrologically nine of swords is Mars in Gemini. Wait a second, why do all the Gemini cards have rough meanings?! (The Gemini asks, as she hides all her knives). Actually, that’s one of the neat parts that happened in our suit, the color scheme between each of the artists happened to end up jiving -really- well!
