Well, I guessed
I think this is the same thing as drawing Harry Potter, for example. In your own way, not like he was shown in the movie, and saying: hey, this is Harry Potter adoptable, but in my interpretation!
Anubis and Ra are already existing characters that belong to the ancient Egyptian myths. They are the property of the ancient people of Egypt, who created them. You can make stories about them, draw them, but not sell the rights to existing historical characters

They aren't characters from a story book, they were gods of ancient Egypt creating characters based on them is nothing new, from your logic that would be saying that the likes of marvel can't make the characters of thor, odin and loki because they belong to nordic myths and legends, it's still the companies interpretation of those ancient heroes
I do understand where you're coming from.. then again..
I'm selling the character designs at the end of the day not the rights. So technically people shouldn't create different versions/designs of Anubis/Ra, correct? They don't belong to us.. Some even call them their own Character at that point and create variant versions of stories with them. Some even OUTSIDE of the true mythology. (example would be Thor from Marvel.. like above!)
You would be talking to many many more other people besides me, who CREATED/SELL their own versions of Anubis/Ra and other mythology characters/periods. There are people besides me who have their own interpretations designs of other historical myths. Some call their own character/design.
Here is Example of other people besides me who also have done this: (this was me just searching for mythology Adoptables)

Another example are the games we play today. Assassin Creed Odyssey; its own version of Greek/Roman mythology yet they are able to sell the game though it should belong to ancient people of Greeks/Romans?..
Please, don't think I'm attacking or anything mostly defending! It's truly unfair to come after me when there are SO SO many who do it. You can simply look on Pinterest/google/DA/FA and see people sell/create different character designs of any mythology these days.

that is, do you think the responsibility is taken away only because other people did the same?
ok. let's suppose I killed somebody.
Now imagine this argument: "There are people besides me who kill other people. Here are the examples of them *Link to the articles about Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, John Wayne Gacy* It's truly unfair to come after me when there are SO SO many who do it."
sounds weird enough, right?
okay. it does not matter. I do not want to continue this dispute anymore, I do not think we will achieve anything. I just think it would be better if you created your own characters based on these myths and legends. rather than just take the existing character, slightly change appearance and sell.
all the best

1) They sell T-shirts, action figures, posters, band-aids, lunchboxes, etc. with these characters on them though, so this logic is broken. If I buy a Loki action figure, do I own the rights to loki?
2) By your logic, you cannot make and sell Angels, Demons/"Devils", Mermaids, etc. These are all mythical beings that belong to different mythology as well. After browsing your gallery, I see that you do make plenty of Demon and Angel adopts. Angels and Demons belong to religious cultures such as Catholicism and Christianity.
3) I get what you're trying to say, and I'm not attacking you. Personally, I just hate when people use circle logic to make an argument.
The artist clearly cannot sell the rights to the actual Ra and Anubis of Egyptian mythology, but he has the right to sell his designs which have been inspired by them, just like Marvel has the right to sell merchandise based off of their design of Loki, Thor, etc.
It's a little weird to keep their names, but that is just my (and apparently your) personal opinion. Even then however, they are just names, and he is free to name his designs as he pleases, just like you are free to name your children whatever you want to.
Again, this isn't to attack you, or to "white knight" for the artist. I just wanted to point out the errors in the logic and try to clear up the misunderstanding.
