The only real problem I have is that skunks IRL actually have little to no body odor. It's the spray that's pungent, particularly in the case of spotted skunks.
And yeah, I know, it's a cute comic, not based in reality, etc. etc. Even so, letting a skunk in peacefully shouldn't have any smelly consequences ^!^
That said, I wouldn't mind getting sprayed one bit. Been skunked twice IRL and loved every musky moment of it.

of course, though I think it does linger on the critter for a while after they have sprayed for some reason or another.
And I've read that indeed the spotted skunks are particularly pungent. Probably due to the smaller body, i'm guessing. small package, more concentration, i suppose.
i don't mind the smell when i catch it outside, but i've never been hit with it full force, so to speak. In fact, i've never even seen a skunk sadly :(
which is too bad, i think they're awfully cute <3

Actually it's a different chemical composition. More of the stinky stuff and less of the more pleasant musky stuff, in the Western spotties anyway. To quote William F. Wood: "The two major thiols of the striped skunk, (E )-2-butene-1-thiol and 3-methyl-1-butanethiol are also the major components in the secretion of the spotted skunk. A third thiol, 2-phenylethanethiol, was present at moderate concentration in this smaller skunk."
Here's where I got the chemical makeup.
Notice he doesn't have data listed there for Eastern spotted skunks. Some skunk-sniffing friends of mine have been squirted by Eastern spotties and report it's a much sweeter, spicier scent than that of the Western spotty (which I've smelled and got outright sick from) by far.

luckily, my character's been "altered" to smell strongly, but strongly of nice pleasant things instead of foul things.
(think purple stink lines instead of green stink lines, and you'll get the idea).
I had heard the spotted skunks and striped skunks had different compositions, but i had no idea that someone actually analyzed it that thoroughly.

Like I said, I'm not sure why you do that, considering even people who have owned glands-intact pet skunks have reported their skunks have little to no bodily odor. If anything, they smell slightly musky like ferrets and that's it. They'll "whiff" now and again and you get skunky scent for a short time in the air, but nothing on their actual body. Skunks go out of their way not to get any on their fur, but accidents happen (particularly in mating battles, which can get heated enough to cause a blasting of another skunk, albeit rarely).
Still a cute character trait though with the pleasant scents
