Back in November of 2018, I had an urge. An urge born of reading Red Lantern to create a little fan-character. It felt silly, but I decided to spend one of my Patreon reward sketches on making it come to life, given that Vellum has always done amazing work when I tossed similar ideas of 'Let's make a character of mine into a sketch'. I wanted to get it out of my system, not because it was bugging me, but because of a growing need to put this out there, share it with people, share my love of Rukis' world with others.
Folks adored him. I thought that was cute, so I got another sketch of the character, this time with a name to attach to him. Vellum again blew me away with the quality, and you all agreed. Soon, those two sketches became more, and even more, eventually becoming a collection of shorts that folks enjoyed, and even praised me. That last part blew me away. I didn't mind being some nobody who put out his silly ideas, but you guys made me something more. I got messages of support with my mental health, messages of people saying how much they loved Tuuwa, even a few people admitting they have a crush on him.
And you know what? I love it. I love that my silly little idea has grown into something so much more than that. I've made a lot of new friends, gathered a small but growing fanbase. I very recently bit the bullet and opened up writing commissions, thinking I wouldn't get any interest. But you guys proved me wrong again. You guys have given me something I never thought I'd be able to get back. Confidence. Confidence in myself and my abilities. I thought I had lost it for good years ago, but you guys have given me something I will treasure for all time.
I can't name each of you individually, as much as I want to. But every single one of you out there, viewing this, favoriting this, commenting, or even just lurking? Words won't do it justice, but I can at least try, and put out what I feel in both this description and a sketch by Vellum.
