Name: Piplup
Classification: Penguin
Type: Water
Number: 393
Height: 38 cm
Weight: up to 5 kilo's
Evolution: Piplup - Prinplup (level 16) - Empoleon (level 36)
Description: A number of you will remember the famous infomercial a few years ago in which a Piplup bites off the fingers of an adoring child. Many were outraged over the commercial, which was aimed at making people think before they obtain a pokémon for their children - even though it was perfectly true. Despite their cute appearance, Piplup can be surprisingly and often completely unpredictably aggressive. With their sizeable talons and razor sharp beak, this makes them unsuitable for young children, something many parents still (best efforts of the government and pokémon welfare organisations not withstanding) don't seem to grasp. Not to say that they are completely unmanagable. In the wild, its aggression is usually directed at other penguins who intrude upon its nesting site. If a Piplup is given his own space in the household, where family members and other pokémon can't come, it will likely be very amiable. It is best to keep both a male and a female Piplup, as these pokémon get lonely quickly. However, this will likely mean the addition of one new Piplup every spring, unless one or both are neutered/spayed. It must be said that allowing the Piplup to breed will increase the chances of your original Piplup evolving. In the wild, success in mating is the best predictor for evolution. In a colony of tenthousand members of the Piplup-family, there will be at most twenty to thirty Empoleons and seven to eight hundred Prinplups. Piplup are very fussy eaters. They prefer to hunt for themselves, but obviously this is not always an option. They will accept only the freshest of fish or squid. Do not be alarmed if the Piplup that is incubating the egg does not want to eat until the egg has hatched: this is perfectly normal. Piplup regularly fall down when walking: in their natural habitat, they mostly move about by sliding on their belly. They are, however, excellent swimmers, reaching speeds of up to 40 km per hour.
