I think cause he did what she was about to do. he gave all of himself to others leaving nothing but his hate for others. he did what others told him he should do to be happy and ended up miserable. so now he sees another about to do the same thing for an easy escape or cause they are too blind to see the dangers.

I really like that series alot, especially how season two ended. I'm a bit sad of her love interest couldn't show the same feelings she had about getting married, and her boss being the one showing voice of reason was something I would never expect. But even him have a good heart once of a while.
