The kings of Fourais, south of Vulland, have a longstanding tradition of taking mistresses. Vanie, the humble and chubby daughter of a baker, happened to catch the royal eye one day, and before she knew it she was whisked off to the palace. There she was groomed to perfection, brushed and perfumed and pampered, and ensconced in her new position along with a minor noble title.
