Emma is a barn owl with whom I had the pleasure of working with during my internship at the Carolina Raptor Center. Barn owls can actually rotate each individual feather within the "disc" of facial feathers, which allows them to optimize their hearing. Pretty cool, huh?

I used to have I great horned owl as a pet. I found her in my attic. I was cleaning and repairing our roof and we found the nest broken. I found the egg and I bought an egg incubator and a couple weeks later she hatched. I named her Artmis after the greek goddess.
She was a blast to keep as a pet, but I decided to give her over to the Wild Animal Park in escondido in Sunny San Diego. My aunt talked me into giving her over to them since she's an animal trainer.

when she was young she did make alot of noise. I was up all the time any way I have insomnia. she was older she was actually very quiet, she only made noises when she was being pestered by my sisters. She only liked me and no one else. I miss her. I had to give her up when she had her first clutch of eggs. and again I was the only one she allowed near them.
