Confession
It had been raining earlier that night and morning and while it had stopped, there were still grey clouds as those for this meeting set out. Saya and Nicholas were silent as they drove in his car. They knew that in one way this was the end and hopefully the beginning of something new. The little bat was extremely nervous. No, more like she was frightened of what would happen. The female hadn’t seen her father in years. Saya had no idea how he was now. She glanced to the fosky; they had made love last night and he told her everything would be alright. The long-haired male had said how much he loved her and would make sure nothing happed to Saya. She in turn said she loved him back. But now her fears were up front, even if the bat had been told to stay calm. Nicholas must have sensed her feelings because he smiled at her. “Just follow my lead babe,” he said to his girl.
They made it to an abandoned warehouse in the city. The place had been rearranged as it would be perfect for this meeting since Gregor had suggested that when the partnership was solidified, that would be the building where both sides would congregate. Of course there was nothing in there and would need a lot of work renovating but it was the right size already. Nicholas and Saya got out of the car and saw the others in their group pull up. These beings got out and the fosky opened the trunk of his car, pulling out a laptop. “What’s that for?” Mr. Lance asked, noticing it.
“It’s something that will help,” the investigator explained. “Let’s go.”
Nicholas gave a small nod to the guy who just spoke and they all went inside. The silence was deep as they were here first. But it didn’t take long for Gregor’s group to come in. Baxtor and Elaine looked the same but to Saya’s surprise, her siblings were here to. A couple of others were with them as well. The new group stopped in front of the first one. Nobody said anything as they all gazed at the other. Saya saw Gregor and saw like her mother, he had aged to. But overall, he still looked the same. She got frightened and shrank behind Nicholas. The older male bat saw her to and frowned. The fosky made eye contact with him then and smirked. It was Gregor who then spoke. “You’re awfully quiet,” he said. “Are you waiting for something to happen which is why none of you have stepped forward for this deal?”
“Waiting…” Nicholas replied. “That’s an excellent choice of words. Yes, we are waiting. Waiting for the one who will clear everything up.”
“What?!” Mr. Lance asked.
The guy turned on the laptop with him and brought up something. “He’ll be here soon,” the fosky replied. “It’s only a matter of time. For those wondering, someone has been hacking our company of money from around the world. The person who’s been doing it, or rather the leader of the group is coming.” He glanced to the side where the entrance was. “That door there is the only way in or out along with being the only way to look in. That means they’ll either walk through that door or at the very least peak in after hacking this laptop I have with me. It contains the information needed for the deal. As well as most likely hack everyone’s account here except the one who ordered them to do so.” Everyone else felt shock at this. It was also talked between Nicholas and the investigator that he would be the one to talk as the fosky suspected Gregor of being the one behind this.
“Wh… what are you saying?!” Saya whispered.
“None of this makes any sense!” Mr. Lance’s wife exclaimed. “Are you telling us that some person is going to drop by here, steal everything we have, and you want us to just do nothing?!”
“Yes, that’s correct,” Nicholas replied. “And then most likely whoever hired the guys will deal with us so we don’t talk. Now listen carefully. If someone does come in through that warehouse door, just let them in without resisting. If the opens slightly, simply just act like you don’t notice anyone there.”
“But that’s just crazy!” Saya’s brother finally said. He had lost his nerve to.
“He’s already here!” the fosky stated, seeing the movement.
Everyone glanced and saw an eye poking through and almost everybody here felt fear for their lives. “Stay calm!” the investigator told them, sensing this.
“How can you be so sure?!” Saya asked him.
“Because the information to our accounts has been modified,” Nicholas answered. “Baxtor and the investigator here took the liberty of doing it for everybody here. The person who’s hacking right now has been targeting locations and people for some time in a pattern they were able to pick up. Based on the skills and how they did it, they were able to make it so our information and accounts wouldn’t be hacked. Nobody is going to lose anything.” The guy glanced to the slightly opened door. “Any second now they’ll come in and see if the laptop has been hacked. That’s when we’ll seize them and check their equipment. Whoever’s information hasn’t been attacked must be the one who hired them.”
“That’s true, he wouldn’t go after his boss…” Mr. Lance agreed, but still uncertain.
Just then the door opened and they stepped in. One of them was a bat. But to Saya’s shock the other was her cousin Mychell, the one who she had taken his crime for in his place. Her past and those that had affected it had come back to haunt her again. Everyone turned to look at these new males carrying a laptop each with a device attached to each. The one who knew Saya was surprised she was here but grinned. “Well, well, if it isn’t the one who broke into that house,” he said with a grin. “Don’t worry, this will be over soon…”
Nicholas was just starring at Gregor who looked normal. That is until the male bat glanced over with an evil smile. “Well all of you, looks like I win,” he said softly.
“The money is ours!” the other bat stated.
Everybody else flinched and some covered their heads. But 30 seconds happened and nothing did. “Wha… Nothing’s happening,” Saya whispered.
Mychell and his partner’s smiles faded faster than they had come on. “It should be happening, but nothing is,” Mr. Lance stated.
Gregor’s face went one to shock; one that showed he realized something had gone wrong with his plans. His nephew and the bat with him realized this to. “Didn’t I already tell you that nobody would lose anything?” Nicholas stated.
“But why?” Saya’s cousin asked. “Why is nothing happening?” The two bats looked to their equipment while Gregor’s face hadn’t changed.
“Boss…” the first bat said. “We did everything you told us to!”
“Now boys; take them now!” the investigator stated. Two cops suddenly came in and caught the hackers, and before they could move were caught and handcuffed. They dropped their equipment. “Well done, now one of you hand over the equipment please.”
A third cop came in and the door was opened up all the way to show more cops were outside. They had even more people handcuffed and guns confiscated. Gregor was now glaring at the group in front of him. The laptops were handed over and Nicholas looked. “If you didn’t believe me earlier, than see for yourselves,” the fosky said and turned the screens around so everyone could see. “I can confirm that the first group of accounts are definitely the real ones that me and my co-workers have. The second one belongs to everybody else. The only information that hasn’t been entered, it yours, Gregor.” The said bat barred his teeth. “If that weren’t enough, those two addressed you as boss, and said they had done what you asked them to.” There was a beat. “It’s settled then.”
Gregor’s mouth opened and then his response shocked those in his group. “It’s a trap!” he stated in a panicked voice. “This whole thing is a set up! This is all part of some plot to frame me and ruin the Alkerst name! Isn’t it a little odd that nobody lost anything after being hacked?! This proves it’s a trap!”
Those in his group had never seen him loose his cool like this and the male bat felt sweat begin to form on his head. “I believe I already told you nobody would lose anything because the accounts had been modified,” Nicholas stated.
“No! You… that can’t be…” Gregor looked over to Mychell and the other bat. “This is a setup! I don’t know these guys!” The ones in handcuffs opened their mouths but all that came out was a strange sound of disbelief before hanging their heads in shame.
“Gregor it’s already too late to deny it; you know you’ve been caught,” Baxtor stated approaching the older male bat. “Just a moment ago you said, ‘It looks like I win.’ How much more of a confession do they need?”
The male bat hung his head. Elaine walked over to his face and took of her wedding ring, throwing it to the ground. “Consider this a divorce,” she said coldly and walked to be with her daughter.
The investigator then went over and began to handcuff Gregor who panicked. “STOP IT!” he shouted and ran for it, stumbling at one point until he got to a wall. He was breathing hard, acting like a caged animal, looking back at everyone else.
“Gregor Alkerst, head of the family, the one who was behind the hacking,” Nicholas growled, eyes narrowed with anger. “It’s over, you’ve lost the war against my love for Saya.” The male bat’s eyes were wide still. “Just a moment ago you proclaimed your victory, expecting us all to lose everything. And to tell you the truth, you might have actually won. And we would have lost. However, what you didn’t count on was the fact Baxtor would be involved who suspected you to not be who you really were. Saya told me, him, and the investigator here the trouble you caused her; acting like she wasn’t worthy to hold the family name. But thanks to Baxtor doing some digging, he was able to not only find out what lengths you went to keep the name Alkerst clean, but also your involvement of covering up Mychell’s past crime that Saya took the fall for. And of course, having done that, Baxtor was able to find out the fact you also hired others to kill us if we had lost. They’ve confessed to what I’ve just said.”
Gregor’s teeth were grinding but then he began to laugh; a helpless one. “That’s right…” he stated. “I am the one who hired the hackers to hack the hotels you work for…” The guy paused. “And what can you do? Arrest me, maybe kill me right here? Here this; I’m not only the one who did this, but I’m also doing it to keep the Alkerst name pure. I have always hated how Saya always took after her mother and never my pure blood line. Since her eldest brother did, she was only an imperfect daughter. When the opportunity arose with Mychell, I killed two birds with one stone. Send Saya away and keeping the family pure. Then I saw those videos of her with that bastard in front of me online. I knew in an instant it was her; happy and well. And above all making a name for herself. I couldn’t allow that. So I came up with a plan to ruin the company those two worked for. Once they lost everything, it would be an easy job to take them out. There was no other way; our name carries a lot of weight in the world. And it’s my purpose to make it so…”
There was silence for a bit. “NO!” Nicholas declared. “You’re just a criminal, Gregor. And what you’ve done is the most despicable thing to my ears. You’ve rejected your own blood, not worthy to be a father, and you’ve become intoxicated by the Alkerst name. In the end, you’re nothing more than a crazy scumbag. That’s all you are. Nothing more, and nothing less.”
Saya then faced Gregor. “Gregor…” she said, tears running down her face. The little bat never got angry but now she was as she looked at him with cold anger. “You are no longer my father to me! I hope you rot in jail for this! I never want to see you ever again! I’m throwing my last name away forever!”
Then her siblings and Baxtor went over to Nicholas’s group. “Consider this my last day working for you,” the fennec fox growled.
“And this is us leaving the family name behind,” the eldest brother stated. He glared at Mychell. “And you are no son of mine…”
Saya cried harder, throwing herself into her boyfriend and he held her, soothing his girl. “It’s over, isn’t it?” Mr. Lance asked the investigator.
“Yes,” they replied. The group watched Gregor and everyone he had involved with be lead away. Nicholas knew it was finished and now things could move on with what he had planned with Saya.
