God. How could you be so good with colours, light and tone? Do you use references when you draw?

Most of the time, yeah. Especially for armor and character bits. Environments come a bit more naturally to me. I photobash a fair bit more than people would probably guess, also. I just keep it to the initial stages of the painting so it all gets painted over by the end. I photobash in the way you'd splash paint on a canvas for random noise and color variety. Helps with fighting against that 'samey-ness' look that digital can give you.

A lot of what I rely on though for lighting and color and values and edge control, is all the hours i've spent doing still lifes. I did a lot in the early years and it kinda gives you an intuitive sense of what looks life-like.
