Confirmed by Halo Origins the forerunner seem to be a humanoid like species but not Humans.

Considering that that's supposed to be their highest grade Combat Skin (in-game, Guilty Spark tells MC to upgrade his Combat Skin from the level 2 he's wearing to a level 12 if he wants to fight the flood effectively), I'm suspecting that's just the body armour they wear.
The design in Origins I is such that it suggests that the Forerunners ARE human..in most respects. Either humanity is an offshoot of them, or perhaps a 'restart' of them, since it seems humans can access Forerunner tech pretty easily.
I want to know what other weapons the Forerunners had... we only ever see Sentinel guns, and those weird pistol-rifles in Origins I.

I think it's supposed to be like, on the most basic level. From what I remember, only certain humans with a particular gene-code could activate Forerunner tech completely. It's like the difference between being a Guest on a system, and being a System Admin. I think I read somewhere that Johnson had to undergo gene-therapy to get him that kinda full access to the Forerunner tech (hence why the Covenant wanted him or Keyes, and not just your average trooper)
Very nice picture. Although I would still argue for some sort of connection between the forerunners and humans. Comparing humans with the species of the Covenant our body plan seems to be pretty rare. None of the member races have a humanoid body plan like ours save fore the Brutes although even there we see glaring differences.
I would think that humans and Forerunners are related on some level. Considering the Forrunner's origins and the time frame of things I would think it's possible that the Forerunners were an offshoot human species created by the Precursors by accelerating the evolution of some of the early human ancestors.
