Coronation day... the anniversary date where all across the world Pokemon celebrated the crowning of their queen, and the official end of the age of tyranny. For many Pokemon, this was a day off from their jobs to celebrate with their families and friends, and prepare for the evening festival. For Rescue Pokemon, it was a day to double time their work, and make sure all of the day's rescues were complete before the evening fireworks displays began. After all, what self-respecting rescuer could celebrate while knowing they left someone alone and afraid in a dungeon on the day of a festival?
The sun was setting over the horizon in Frostpeak village, and a certain Vaporeon Captain was making sure her team had finished their work. She herself had taken on far more than her fair share of work for the day, and was ready to unwind with a cold drink, and one of Cocoa's famous sweetbreads. As she finished up her rounds, and was making her way into town, she spotted one of her recruits standing alone, staring off into the horizon. It was already dark out, and she figured the Haxorous would have been out getting himself something to eat by now. She walked up to him, and the pair of them got to talking. "So.. What are you doing all by yourself, Iri? Not feeling up to partying tonight?" She asked the larger Pokemon while he let out a wistful sigh. "... No, I... Was just thinking about something.. It's stupid, don't worry about it." He replied, just getting a smirk in response from his captain. "You know that doesn't work on me. If you don't tell me what you're really thinking, I'm just gonna bother you all night."
Before the dragon could say anything, the first of the night's fireworks shot into the sky, illuminating everything in a brilliant blue hue. "I was just... Thinking about the fact that I don't have anyone to watch the display with this year....." He said quietly. His words were met with a laugh from the Vaporeon as she stood on her hind legs, teasingly prodding his side with a paw. "Wow, you sound so lame.~ And besides, last I checked I'm right here with you. So stop being a loser and have a seat with me, we'll stay right here until the fireworks are over, then we can go get some drinks in town.~" The Haxorus stood silently for a moment, then let himself sit down next to his captain, watching wordlessly as the display progressed, lighting up the entire sky in a harmony of spectacular colors. The pair were just happy to be there, until suddenly Iridius turned to look at the Vaporeon beside him, his chest feeling warmer than he had ever felt before. He scooped up her paws into his hands and looked into her eyes. "Tetra... I need to tell you something... I... I love you. Thank you for being here with me.... and letting me join your team.." He said, his voice barely able to stammer the words out as he felt as though he was going to choke.
Tetra just smiled that same warm smile she always gave, before speaking one last time as the display's finale kicked off. "I love you too, Iri. Thanks for letting me watch with you tonight.~"
