Continued is Parts Five and Six
Finally the reveal: displays on-site tell the entire story.
This was Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station.
Opened in 1967, it relayed communications from NASA spacecraft orbiting overhead back to Mission Control in Houston.
Guidance, telemetry, voice, video, all passed through the 26m-wide dish and then out to the rest of the world.
Those concrete plinths that started this story were the foundations of the microwave tower that formed the first link in a chain that extended around the wold, passing crucial data to where is was needed in the USA.
Without this, Apollo 11 would have been impossible.
