Judging by the way it smells (which is somewhere in the neighborhood of "very nice") and the fact that it's almost 5 feet high, I can only assume this isn't a dandelion. There was another one growing a foot or 2 away and that one was even taller than me but those were the only 2 examples of this deceptively dandeliony-looking chonk. If anyone can identify, I will immediately scour amazon for seeds so I can cultivate.

It's a milkweed and may be a dandelion family member.
Dandelions don't have to be short. We train them with our lawnmowers. Normally, they will grow taller, depending on the competition. Lawn lions put a ton of effort in fast production- less than a week! Then the mower rewards this effort and the whole things starts over.
Now it may not be the exact species, but if not, it's really close.
Leaves are edible, make a good tea, (so I am told) and the flowers are delicious breaded and friend! You can put them raw in salads too. A prolific grower too. Just a handful produce like mad. Grab some next summer by breaking the stem when it is puffed up in all its puffy glory.
The tea has medicinal uses too- asthma relief I think.

I mean dandelions are edible. I am not 100% sure about this. If this is what I think it is, (milkweed,) it has medicinal uses too. It is also called "opium lettuce." Used in pain relief, it works pretty god against nerve pain. But WOW does it taste nasty! But if I had nothing else, it would be better than hurting. (You can get a mild high, but it's certainly not worth the taste and the retching, lol.)
Anyway, look up opium lettuce. I bet you will find that this is what its called. Makes a puffy "dandelion" like seed that looks just like it's short cousin.
Also, google how to make your own extracts. That will teach you to make your own teas and what not. Start small ALWAYS! Even if you know what it is, you can overload and cause an allergy that otherwise would not have formed. Just a sip or nibble, wait 30 minutes and if you are still ok, you are likely good to proceed..
If it tastes nasty, like bitter, and you don't know for sure what it is, STOP until you are 100% sure. Nasty and bitter is nature's way of saying, "Hey buddy, you just blow in from stupid town? I am poisonous."
