I'm ever looking for weird things to shift into and try to mimic. Today that is a rug, much like those bear or tiger skin rugs. Except this time it's me! One of the weirder things I experience as shapeshifter taking these sort of almost lifeless forms is breathing and the heart. Consciously stopping your breathing and your heart is disorienting at first. It takes practice and someone near by just in case to help at first. But once you've got the motion down of changing how your body still functions you start to realize how weird it is. Sometimes a part of my mind slips for a moment while changed and tries to breath, but the sensation feels almost like sucking on a straw that's blocked up at one end.
Taking forms that purposely don't move is a bit like tying yourself up or jumping off a high point. You have to push past the sensation to abort, to panic, and not change. I akin it to mediation when I choose to try to mimic inanimate forms. Just enough of me is paying attention to be able to enjoy the experience and shift back when needed or wanted. But enough of me is keeping the calm zen that is sometimes required to keep my body from aborting and reverting back to something more animate.
