Just as every party needs a healer/support, they also need a tank! Someone to take the hits that would crumple everyone else. With Mirror Coat, Barrier, Endure as well as a naturally high Defense stat Glaceon is well suited to taking some hits! But, of course, even a tank can't be all defense, and thus, an Ice Shard turned Spear makes for an excellent source of offense!
