My aphonopelma chalcodes drinking. I love watching my tarantulas drink, they seem to really enjoy it. ;) A lot of people think spiders get all the moisture they need from their prey but they do drink water. (And no, not from sponges. They need dishes of water or if they're too teeny, the sides of their enclosures misted so they can drink the little droplets.)
This chalcodes was my first tarantula. I got her at the reptile show in Sacramento some years ago. She doesn't have a name, few of my t's do. But she's my favorite. :)

Once you have them set up, they've got to be the easiest things to take care of. Just make sure they have water and throw in a cricket once or twice a week.
There are some people who handle their t's and some who don't. I don't. Its way too easy to hurt them, if they fall they will lose limbs and possibly die. Not to mention escape. Plus there's irritating hairs that imbed in your skin and the possibility of being bitten. Some species are more mellow than others (this one is a good example) although you still need to condition them to being handled.
But overall, there's really no reason to handle them in my opinion. Its not like they need to play or want your companionship. If you get a member of a calm species and get it used to being picked up, you can do that. But you have to always be careful with them, no putting them on your shoulder and going to get the mail. ;)
