My rat Freya, age 2, crossed the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. She was the last of a large colony I had when I lived in Arizona, which at one point numbered as many as 23 altogether. When I moved to Oklahoma, I still had a few of them - they were all very old, and have passed away over the months that I've been here, with Freya being the last to go.
This was a photo I took of her for Valentines day in 2008...she was only about a month and a half old. I always loved how this picture turned out, like it belonged in a calender. =)
Just putting it up here to honor her memory, and remember all the good times I had with my rats back in Arizona. RIP Freya!
*Oh, and just so everyone knows, I'm fine. I've had many, many rats over the past 10 years, and a short lifespan is part of the package with this animal. I'm used to it, and I'm over it. Death is just another part of life. I'd rather celebrate their lives then cry over their passing. So no sympathy comments ok? ;)

Very good picture indeed, sorry about it still.
I'm myself gonna try and get one or two of these little cuties. I bought a pair of mice from my teacher at my school but they wouldn't work out for me. By far too jumpy and nervous, I wanna be able to handle my pets you know?
Anyways that's a bit out of topic, she was very cute when she was still around. I'm certain she will R.I.P.

awww she is adorable =)
yeah i can understand you'd be used to rats with a short lifespan now. it's a lot harder though if it's a cat or dog or bird that you've had for yeaaars and grown up with and all that and then they pass, that's when the tears start coming. but indeed, celebrate the life and good times you had ^^
will you ever get more rats?
also i've been interested in getting a pet rat for a while. like, how do you look after them? what's the best enclosure, what are they like as a pet, what are their bladders like etc?
