In the wake of the Canterlot assault, two mortally injured Changelings managed to find each other in the chaos. Peppermint was a battlefield medic, and Lavender a ranger specializing in the concealment and confusion of troop movement. Realizing their deaths were inevitable, they used their shape-shifting powers inherent in all Changelings, they joined their bodies together in an attempt to deny death.
Being separated from the hive and being far too different to even BE accepted back, the two hid out in a nearby forest, subsisting on small game and each others' emotions. At first, the two didn't get along very well at all, but eventually they came to an uneasy truce -- especially since they couldn't separate. The needs of the conjoined emotionvores, however, eventually forced them to find a small pony village...and engage in a desperate gamble.
Peppermint and Lavender could not take the chance that joining their heads together would not have dire consequences, but that didn't mean they couldn't look like a normal pony or anything else for that matter. They chose their victims and stalked them, being very careful to only take the bare minimum of what they needed. Also, since they really couldn't live in town they would occasionally steal what they needed.
It wasn't a fun existence, but it was better than nothing.
And then, one day, a young unicorn came to the village. Her name was Coaldust; her cutie-mark was a large, unsettling eye that many a pony swore they saw blink and move. Her mane and tail were the deepest of blacks, and her coat was a charcoal gray. Many though that she was the daughter of Princesses Luna-Moon, possibly even dating before the disappearance of Princess Celestia. Coaldust kept her past secrets, but it was clear she was an Oddfoal -- a pony born with disquieting, creepy or just plain weird abilities.
If anypony had noted that these Oddfoals dated to just about when Celestia disappeared, they kept that secret to themselves.
In any case, Coaldust settled in with the family who ran the local library, and everypony agreed that although almost as shy as the Vampire-Queen Flutterbat she was easily as sweet, although would often get excited over people mistreating old books. Still, she did make people a little uneasy because of her cutie-mark and the increase of background dread drove the perpetually peckish conjoined duo to descend upon the town one night in a maddened frenzy of hunger.
Coaldust was waiting for them. Her cutie-mark was the Seer's Eye, and she foresaw them losing control well before she even arrived. Lonely and distraught because she always seemed to foresee death and destruction, she came here to save the conjoined Changelings...by sacrificing a life she didn't want to live anymore.
It was her suicidal depression, her despair, her hopelessness ultimately that saved her. Peppermint and Lavender, drinking in that bitter nectar, saw in her a kindred spirit. Rather than kill her, they once again only took what they needed and left the village. Confused, Coaldust followed them into the woods, using her powers to find their hovel. The three talked through the night and into the morning sharing tales of woe and sadness but also joy as well. In the morning Coaldust left, with a promise to return.
A promise she kept, night after night. And somehow, for some reason, the Changelings didn't feel so hungry anymore.

For those that are wondering, yes this is from the same world as this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27472635/ and this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27472689/ No, Celestia's disappearace is NOT Luna/Moon's doing. Let's just say....there are doors no pony should open and leave it at that.
Gentlebeings, Welcome to Nightmare Night Equestria. Here, the shadows are deeper, the nights are longer, and the seasons colder. But at the end of the day, ponies are ponies and Friendship is still Magic.
Embrace the Night. It might just be lonely.

A bigh thank-you to
