Lion and the Sprinter (AC2019 Commission)
Second of two commissions I got during Anthrocon 2019's Artist's Alley, this one features
lionkingcmsl's character posing in an unnamed Northeast Corridor station with an ACS-64 (Amtrak Cities Sprinter) electric locomotive in the background. This marks only my second time drawing a lion character (first was BlondeVelvet, no longer active on FA). This is, as far as I know the first year I've had railroad-themed commissions (this is the third of three so far), which is curious given my long association with railroads as a hobby.
Obviously the most complex part of this was the locomotive in the backdrop (trivia: electric locomotives are called "motors" as they do not have any on-board power source to move themselves). It seems odd saying this because for the longest time I was better at drawing machines than living beings, but then again I've been out of practice with the former ever since discovering this fandom back in the late 1990's.
Everything you see here was hand-rendered on bristol in the Artist's Alley, and afterward scanned on the flatbed scanner I carry to cons. For display on FA I first inked this using Clip Studio Paint's straight-line and curved line tools, as the copy of Micrografx Picture Publisher on my "road warrior" laptop didn't want to perform levels adjustments on the scan needed to fix trhe darkness of the pencils. After taking this home and attempting the same process on my home machine, I got the levels adjustments I was looking for and cleaned up the scan by airbrushing out the paper grain, smudges and eraser flecks that didn't get completely cleaned up at the con. I chose not to release the inked version at this time as it would not have been an accurate reflection of what the commissioner got.
Pencil on bristol, processed and re-sized for posting with Micrografx Picture Publisher 10.

Now that I think about it...I did actually have a railroad-themed commission before these...for railrunner in 2011
Thanks again and I'm glad I could help out another railfur. :=3
Some info, for people who don't know me: I used to work for Amtrak. In fact, my icon pic is of me at the Philly radio shop. I have seen and have been onboard an ACS, number 602 while it was in the Sunnyside Yard during its layover.
