I have always appreciated the color that weeds can provide even in alleyways and urban areas. Sadly almost no one bothers to look down and see what is right there at their feet.

I just found out Chicory is related to dandelions, and the roots are good for making artificial coffee and the leaves are good for Salads. See what one can learn here on FA?

Coffee and Chicory is a staple in New Orleans. It is really quite good. Cafe du Monde and Community Coffee are two brands of coffee and chicory that have a wide distribution. You can find them on Amazon and Ebay as well.

Lots of the weeds around here have pretty flowers but bear some nasty thorns. The flowers on the weed in your driveway are the prettiest on any weeds I've seen though.

Yeah I thought they were pretty that's why I posted them but they are no more the lawn mower made quick work of them. One of my Watchers said they were chicory and I understand the roots make a pleasant tea or do they taste like coffee I don't know I never acquired a taste for coffee so I wouldn't know

I'm not sure what chicory tastes like, but coffee with chicory is a thing in New Orleans and maybe elsewhere in the south I've been told.
I switch back and forth between instant coffee and instant tea. Coffee in the winter...warm, and tea in the summer..cold.

I don't drink coffee never acquired The Taste for it and a sweet iced tea when it's hot is really nice

Chicory (Cichorium intybus)

It is/was a pretty thing. They're perennial; it will be back. Beauty is where you find it, Nothing sets out to be a weed, it is Humanity that makes that determination.

True... a weed is any plant someplace you don't want it, is what I Horticulture teacher used to say

we are all weeds to the rest of the universe

i would transplant it, or even just toss it,

its easy to overlook and undervalue all growing things,
yet, all, even the diversity of them itself, have value.

it is certainly your option, to do as all things do to each other in nature,
but if it has beauty, everything that does, that is a gift.
