Well, then you've been picking up on the secondary references, now you get to learn where they come from.
Samedi is French for "Saturday," hence Pratchett's pastiche. Le Baron Samedi is indeed one of the high loa of Voodoo, known for such prominent symbols as his top hat, a face painted as a skull, a glass of hot spiced rum, a big cigar and a skull-topped walking-stick.
I've an affinity for the Baron myself, even got an avatar as Baron Hamedi. (Made my own skull-tipped cane for a real-life costume!)
