Samedi is French for "Saturday," hence Pratchett's pastiche. Le Baron Samedi is indeed one of the high loa of Voodoo, known for such prominent symbols as his top hat, a face painted as a skull, a glass of hot spiced rum, a big cigar and a skull-topped walking-stick.
I've an affinity for the Baron myself, even got an avatar as Baron Hamedi. (Made my own skull-tipped cane for a real-life costume!)
