To think of it, keeping the ears inside the bork would have been more natural (though I have read recently that Janissaries might have worn metallic caps under their borks, and if that was the case I wonder which configuration would have been more natural on an anthro character). Adapting historical headdresses (and footwear in case of digitigrade characters) on anthro characters is quite difficult.
Just take things back to basic engineering.
Look at how the joints work and the head shapes. I had modern Military helmets for Anthros. Looking at the product "Doggles", can give you an idea of how to modify equipment to fit the canine cranium. I actually like the challenge, making clothes and costumes to odd shapes.

Although I am aware that war masks were used by Turkic and Persian cavalrymen, I do not recall any sources I have read mentioning that Janissaries also wore them. But then, I can't claim that I have read enough materials on this subject. Could you provide me any references?
