Ever had a long-distance relationship?
It's not easy being so far from someone you're so close to. The two of you can still talk all the time, but it's always through glass. You can see them every day.
But you can't hold them. You can't lay next to them at night. You can't feel their warm body against yours the way you want to. You can't comfort them when they're crying or hurt. You can't be there to stand up for them in front of others.
All you can do is watch from the other side of the glass while the both of you are subject to circumstances outside of your control, hoping for the day when you'll be together again.
