So I heard that Maya has this weird scheme where it'll charge you $250 for one year and then auto-renew your license for the full price later?
Look - if you need to use underhanded tactics, it means your product is NOT worth it's asking price.

Autodesk has had some very shitty pricing schemes. I remember they used to have a free app called 123D Sculpt+, and the fuckers removed it from the appstore later on WITHOUT so much as a proper replacement. Done right pissed me off matter of fact.
Hopefully Sculptura or another app gains model painting soon. That's what 123D Sculpt+ used to have.

I don't mind paying money for good software to be honest.
I understand that people who put in the work want to get payed, it's fair.
What is not fair is SHITTY SCHEMES that try to extort money from people.
Like - I do not demand you UPDATE the old software. You can literally say "Look, this app is free, but we're not making money on it so it won't be continued."
That is a fair way of dealing with it. You can be mad at them, but it is honest.
However like you said - removing an App, hoping that the free users will be FORCED to switch to a payed one... no, just freaking NO.
That is outright the company being an asshole.

i can say for personal experience its hard to learn in effect but once you knew some stuff its faster as fuck even more than the rest of programs, most of tools are in keyboard commands, and learn to use too, best part its you never stop of learning new stuff so there always learning new stuff with it, its like a rollercoaster, hard to climb but the fall its amazing
