Just got back from a 20 mile backpacking trip in Big Sur.
Felt like posting a little something.
Sorry the scan's kinda dirty.

Yeah, it was 20 roundtrip. We hiked the first 5 at night, single file, with a several-hundred ft drop to one side. It was quite the pilgrimage.
I'm not usually THAT out doorsy.
It's more of an annual thing. Last trip was in Death Valley. We did an intense canyon hike & even managed to visit barker ranch o_O

hiking halfway the night we got there was the only way we could have fit everything in with relative comfort. my brother had to be back at work in so many days.
The goal of the whole thing was natural hot springs, pouring right out of the hillside -__-
my brother planned it, bought food & drove. it was gonna be just us, but our friend joined us last minute.
we initially tried to reach some springs near Ojai, but the road was closed... so we went up the coast.

Oh, i'm not sure as to the route, but here's a site with a great deal of info - http://www.verber.com/mark/outdoors.....nations/sykes/
& there was actually another spring hike right near Ojai that we tried to hit up first, but the trailhead was unfortuately closed. Not sure whether it was due to fires or what.
But yeah, it's closer, shorter & considerably less treacherous than Sykes. Good place to try out around spring or fall.
