Yeah I imagine they would make sure they had all angles covered, but can only show three sides at a time! :P Also, guided rocket bay on the front and side too <3 Those could go anywhere!

I've been thinking of optimum geometry for a spaceship's directional weapons.

You could have a tetrahedron with a 360/180 turret on each flat side - or better yet, a 360/270 turret on each corner! Or of course a plain old sphere.

But 3D symmetric spaceships lack the ability to focus firepower on one axis and drive power on another. And they look boring!

One possible configuration is Iain Banks' fictional Culture one, which is basically a long cone with drive at the rear. It has five weapon pods surrounding the rear end, and three more in front of those. This allows for concentration of maximum firepower in the forward direction, where all eight turrets can bear at once. In any other direction, five weapons can be brought to bear at the same time. Rather an elegant plan!
