Fine silver (99.9% pure) is generally too soft for producing functional objects; therefore, the silver is usually alloyed with copper to give it strength, thus creating "Stirling silver" containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper which would not deform much in shape from wear and tear
sorry my mom was a silversmith, so i had to point that out, not that it really matters just thought you'd like to know
