The third strip is one of those "establishing shot"-type strips that have to go in from time to time just to let readers know what's going on outside the main focus of action.
Sandy is seated on the other side of the empty chair, and at this moment, doesn't have very much to do in the plot. And Lady Vortigern hasn't been seen since she was introduced over a year ago real-time.
So Sandy tries to make conversation with the Vorthy sitting next to her, only to find out that Lady Vortigern is no longer "in the building" as it were.
Vortigern was once one of Songween's most enthusiastic warriors, but her career took its toll on her.
