I have seen this ref before. Really nice looking! So that cool Treeckodude's name is Yuko Hayakori, right? Is the name a reference to anything specific or has it a meaning? Would be cool to read a bio for him or get some more info.
Like is Yuko a cosplayer or is he meant to be an actual ninja and samurai both? Of course mentioning ninjas because of the "Naruto" reference (the headband around his neck bearing the crest of the Hidden Leaf village).
Would somewhat wish him of course that it's more like him being an ancestor of such living in the modern times where he rather shows visitors about his family's rich background and has only to wear such things to demonstrate to people how things have been during times where there have been prefectures reigned under the shoguns and daimyos.
Just meaning: Even if people think in a whimsical way about fighters and soldiers because of how imposing their geddup may seem: such were living in harsh times where each day could have been their last (either by letting their life in battle or by ending it on their own via seppoku because they couldn't live up to their clan's expectations). Simply not a fate that I'd wish for anybody. <:3
Though going by your description, my personal guess would be that he just got the oppurtunity to wear that armour and sword out of a lucky occasion. Maybe he's just a regular modern day Treecko who likes ninja and that accompanying cultural background where samurai also fit into. ;3
Before going more into detail, let met tell you that I always am a fan of putting costumes on characters. Love to see that with Shiny myself lots!
And you did great! Fitting armor around Yuko's Treecko body like that is a feat in itself and I have respect for how much research that might have needed to be accomplished.
I literally took a few hours to study samurais after watching your reference because I wanted to give you some more acknowledgement when replying (I'm also a curious dude <X3). I guess since you like anime like "Naruto", you also got interested in the various subjects that surround the characters' various mythological backgrounds, their culture and other references. And it sure is interesting with how much there is to explore. =3
Just taking the wear alone into observasion is quite the treat. I wonder: is that 'Mon' (the crest on the'Sashimono' aka the flag that is attached to the armor) taken from anywhere specific or did you make a symbol for a fictional clan here, Yusuf?
I know from browsing some that there existed probably at least twenty-thousand different houses and clans in and surrounding Japan in the feudal system. So there are loads of known ones to find online though it would be quite difficult for me to quickly find and pinpoint the design here on a quick notice. I'm kinda slow. ^_^'
Yuko's armor with the 'Kabuto' helmet is yet another great source of things that you look and and feel like: What meaning do all these have? I read for example that there exist lots and lots of various types of 'Kabuto' helmets (I feel the Pokémon Kabuto could get a bit envious of all the fancy designs of such headgear with the similar name). You created a really nice looking one with a golden 'Maedate' that curves in front of the helmet and gives the whole armor already somewhat of a regal look.
Then there are obviously the display of several 'Kamon Mistu Tomoe' which represent the various signs of trinity in the religions in China, India and Japan. The emblem is quite cool, as how many meanings people associate with it. It consists of three comma crests called 'Magatama' and it gets used not just in clan's 'Mons' but also can be seen in various places like at shrines or on taiko dums as the sign of the Shintoism.
As you probably already studied yourself, the 'Mitsu Tomoe' also is often associated with the samurai as sign of Hachiman who is the kami(god) of war there. With it the warriors show respect and are gifted with courage, it says. (Oh, and apparently Okinawa used it as their Ryukyu Kingdom emblem back then as well.). And somewhat it reminds of the "Sharingan" in "Naruto" as well. ;3
Before I continue with my findings, I wanna exclaim yet again that I find the design choices here have a really nice harmony, Yusuf. The darker tones of the armor go really well with your Treecko's bright and shiny body colors. The 'Maedate' and Yuko's eye color fitting is also a neat extra touch.
He sure looks really fancy in that outfit and also the way he's holding the katana. Awesome! =D
I think that I spotted a flaw in your drawing: namely the 'Mitsu Tomoe' in your drawing is going leftward in your drawing, except for the one to the far left. There you seem to have included it accidently going rightward.
That brings me to an interesting fact. 'Mitsu Tomoe' exist in both versions and apparently some people say depending on where the 'Magatama' in it point, it has a different meaning. Does it go left aka clounter-clockwise, then it stands for drawing power from earth to win strength. Does it points to the right aka clockwise, then it stends from trying to win innerstrength and to ascend the own spirit to heaven. You see, both versions are definitely positive for people and correspond even back towards the ancient kami stories of the trinity.
I had mentioned it before. There is also the 'Magatama', that comma shaped stone included in the 'Mitsu Tomoe'. The design of it has several meanings. To some, it represents an animal tooth that people in the past hung around their neck to appeal more successful as hunters. Some see it as sign of spiritual energy coming from the moon or the soul as it resembles the form of both (the shape of the soul aka the four general "Miitama"). Some even go as far as comparing it to a fetus.
Anyways, "Magatamas" are seen as lucky charms nowadays a lot and as protectors of the soul. It's pretty neat to find out that many "Mons" with various amounts to up to four comma symbols exist, all to give the person balance and the fortitude to achieve their goals.
Lastly, the sacred gem is seen as a sign of benevolence as it basically resembles one of the three sacred treasures in the mythology. The other ones were a mirror of wisdom and a sword of courage. That said, it probably is also meant as a reminder that each person is responsible for their soul and shines in their own way by the decisions that they make.
That basically does conclude what I had to say about your design here, but there is also that other appearance of Yuko in that artwork that Doggett drew. You also have a really nice and comfy looking default outfit for the Treeckodude that I find pretty cool, as it is a neat mix of a hoodie and sleeveless zipper vest.
I dig it. That one does also bear the 'Magatama', this time in a jade green color which is quite popular nowadays. The red and dark colored mix is mixing yet again greatly with both design elements of Yuko like his tail and the rest of his accessoires like the headband and fingerless gloves, and also his Shiny turquoise. Really cool, Yusuf.
I definitely have a very nice impression of Shiny's new Treeckodude so far. Looks like another funloving Pokéboy in the neighborhood! I hope you'll keep having fun with making art of him just like your Mexican Wolf.
Already noticed that there are some Telegranm stickers in the works, a Micro related art by a dude of yours where the fella seemingly found ways to shrunk some dudes and they are so kind to give him paw rubs (hoping that I guessed that one right and Yuko doesn't go and bully people, but that's your decision always of course, tehe. <X3). It's a pleasure to get to know him anyways.
Keep up the great artistic fun! Thanks for sharing!

K thanks. Nah just kidding hehe, whoa that's a long wall of text right there, I must say it took me a while to read and it surprises me that you really got interested in my character <x3 I didn't knew I would met someone that would reply like this because it's amazing ^o^
I might not writes as much as you do so I'm gonna answer all the questions I detected in short <x3
Yuko Hayakori is a shiny treeckodude x3, Yuko comes from the Hayakori Clan (早氷) (Haya-Kori = Fast Ice) Basically I've been searching for Kanji's around and I've been arranging them so i could find a proper surname for Yuko, so it is a fictional surname, as well the 'Mon' that represents a treecko tail and some ice elements in there ^^. Yuko is meant to be a ninja that lives in the modern era just like you said, and he got lucky to wear a samurai costume just to find out how it feels being in one of them :3
For the Kabuto helmet I didn't made much research, I just ventured to draw my treecko inside an armor suit, and I was searching for references on Google and I used a random armor as reference :P
By the said, I see that you made more investigation than me in this matter <xD. Yes I feel interest in Japanese feudal culture and I am aware of the Daimyo's and clans that wen't around the XI-XVI century but I'm afraid that I didn't wanted to investigate so much further to dig into details, but basically that was my inspiration for this drawing, I didn't seek for perfection but I wanted to give it a go and do my best for this matter :)
And yes I have a ref sheet under construction that I need to finish eventually so everyone will know who's Yuko and his origins & specifications <x3
Either way thanks for the huge interest Totodude, I'm glad you liked it and that i gave you enough inspiration to investigate more about the theme ^o^

I love when people pour their heart into their mascots and sonas. I am a happy member of this community because a bunch of people supported me until now, too. It's the least that I can do to repay the kindness. =3
Oh, interesting. Fast Ice, you say? Does that mean that Yuko got some Ice Type Pokémon in his family? Well, such things sure could be possible, I assume at least. It's nice that he got that cool oppurtunity. Shiny would have enjoyed it definitely, too. He loves cool accessories, costumes and outfits. X3
That's absolutely fine. I just wanted to praise that you made the effort and did a nice job on recreating such an outfit. I'm in general somebody who get curious quickly and finds excitement in many things.
I rarely get bored or at least I cannot remember the last time I felt bored. Maybe boredom is nothing but just a feel of laziness...or being exhausted? =D
And surely will look forward to what you might like to share with everyone in the future yet, Yusuf. Happy that my blabbering didn't annoy ya. ;3
