Interesting shield crest there. Don't know what the rune is exactly, but the design looks to me like it has symbolic suggestion. A glove/hand held up palm forward in a stop/hold gesture with the rune for harm/danger over it, with the meaning "to stop incoming harm or danger". A good thing for possibly superstitious warrior to have on their shield.
LOL! The "S" over the white hand is an in-joke refrence to "Lord of the Rings", namely to the Uruk-hai orcs from Isenguard who bore an "S" and Saruman's white hand and on their shields. In the original version of Rosie's shield (back when it was going to be an adult portfolio instead of a PG comic) the hand on the shield was 'flipping the bird'
