Princess Eirana Elenion, daughter of Orion & Airily Elenion. A family torn from within, leaving behind a parentless monarch with the Galaxy on her shoulders.
Eirana knows of her mother only through text, her curiousity surviving on mental images and dreams. From what she did know, Airily had been a prodigy at all forms of magic. She possessed prowess of all the ‘Earthly Elements’, Earth, Water, Air & Fire along with knowledge of magic beyond.
Elenion prowess in Radiance was commonplace, but Eirana wanted more. Not for any greedy purpose, but because she felt the need to prepare. Perhaps it was foolhardly, but she sought the wisdom and skill of her mother. It was in all honesty more to satiate her lack of knowledge of magics beyond ice, lightning & light, perhaps slightly greedier than she’d like to admit.
Eirana thumped onto one of the old, decrepit chairs, letting out a sigh of mild irritation. She set aside her twenty-sixth tablet. In an effort to preserve what was left of their history, Eirana had used her limited authority to order all scrolls and ancient parchments sealed in thin, page-like crystal slabs, eternally preserving her kind’s legacies. In the ruins of the former Celestial Palace before its’ near total destruction from both time & war, Eirana’s lap had disappeared beneath clusters of rectangular crystals as she scoured more and more. Eventually, a phrase stood out to her amongst the scrawlings of ancient Celestial language. Narrowing her one visible eye, she held the crystal up to the light and read aloud, “...the unprecedented ability to wave and bend the magic around her using some form of--”,
Eirana gasped, tugging the slab out of the pile with the soft sounds of melodic scraping. This was it!
In her haste, she hardly noticed as a five-pointed-star shaped crystal flung out from the pile and landed nearby. An odd, hazy, autumn-hued mist exuded from a yellow jewel in the middle of the star crest, creeping around the room and filling it with the odd shape of a misty rose. A subtle scent of vague permission and slight rose undertones wafted through the air, capturing Eirana’s attention and gaze. Instinctively, her ears swivelled to the source, scarlet eye narrowing; watching.
She knew this scent well. It had been described over and over by those who knew The Queen. A coincidence? Too much of a coincidence to be trusted. Slowly rising to her paws, she quietly approached the accursed artifact, summoning a large spearlike shard of pink ice from the palm of her hand.
The gem suddenly sprung to life, a voice echoing from the yellow jewel in the middle. The voice was gentle, dulcet and delicate, sounding as if slightly filtered.
“State your name, profession and purpose.” a feminine voice chimed, though beneath rang a clear authoritative undertone...a veiled threat.
Eirana felt a snarl come to her throat, red lightning beginning to spark around her hands defensively, preparing for anything as she parted her lips, tentatively answering, “Princess Eirana Elenion of Alpha Vulpeculae, Princess of the Milky Way Celestials...and uh...I guess...understanding.” she stated clearly, though her voice more or less unintentionally came out as little more than a growl.
“Access granted.” the crystal chimed, less threateningly. The gem opened, revealing small slithers of Elendorian Crystal - Eirana could tell by the hum of the crystal, a strange thrumming sound tickling her sensitive vulpine ears. She watched quietly as the yellow gem suddenly burst with unnatural light.
Eirana instinctively recoiled, ears flicking with caution, slowly gripping the ice shard sliding out from the palm of her hand, pink ice shards clattering along the floor and creating a tiny symphony of chimes. This could be a trap by The Elders...the scent of The Queen...how clever! She raised her hand, about to slam it down with an enraged yell, when suddenly a figure emerged from the jewel, though the image was too blurred and fuzzy to make out. Static rang out from the odd gadget and Eirana frowned in momentary confusion. She kept her weapon at the ready, but slowly rested a fingertip against the gem, donating some light - just enough - to kickstart the contraption.
She watched quietly as the image settled, the dazzling artifact now fizzling loudly, the volume increasing over time. The figure solidified into a hologram depicting a small, monochromatic vulpine female with tassel-decorated, sideways facing ears and a tail far too large for her petite frame. She wore a thin, whitegold chain around her long hair, seemingly in a circlet fashion, crested with a large rhombus-shaped gem. She observed the odd, motionless figure, eventually spying an all-too-familiar tiara upon her head. In a sudden wave of emotion, realization hit Eirana. Corona.
...Corona was a family heirloom - this was Airily!
The filtered female voice suddenly spoke with a measure of placidity, controlled and clear. It said, simply, “Eirana, no matter the circumstance of how you view my rule, or how you found this, know that your father and I adore you.”
For the first time in years, Eirana felt tears prickle at her eyes. She combed back her milky locks as she stumbled onto her rear in sheer disbelief, revealing her rarely seen left eye as she watched her mother in motion.
“Eirana, being my daughter, you bear my mana bending ability. I now pass my knowledge onto you. Simply instruct Corona to execute Airily Core and you, too, will wield my power. Worry not, I have taken care of everything.” Eirana stared at her mother, not truly listening to her words as she uncontrollably sobbed. Her eyes closed as she took steadying, unnecessary breaths and let out a frosty sigh, only to hear. “I love you, dear Eirana.” before the bell-like sound of Celestial magic faded.
As soon as she had appeared, she was gone. Eirana sighed tearfully, touching the gem, hoping against hope that Airily would return. Instead, the image of Airily & Orion embracing appeared, along with the chimes of an unknown tune. Swallowing hard, Eirana slowly lowered Corona from her head and gazed intently into its’ purple cabochon. Her voice shook as she uttered the phrase taught to her, the tune settling her nerves.
A sudden searing pain sank its fangs into the back of Eirana’s right ear. The mirror-like crystal all around showcased the sudden blinding light which had burst out from the twinkle-shaped birthmark on her ear.
Corona lit up, the crown aglow as the familiar autumn mist burst from the amethyst, striking the Elenion Birthmark. In an instant, panting from the now rapidly fading pain, Eirana understood it all, as if it had been implanted into her Core. Oddly confident, Eirana listed a hand and persimmon filled the air, whirling around her as mist crept betwixt her fingers, forming the shape of a rose before shifting into a tiny stellar flame.
Bittersweet, Eirana smiled, her eyes gazing skyward as a single tear froze against her cheek.
Beyond any form of word, beyond any feeling other than whole, Eirana could only utter two words;
“Thank you.”
