Cinderrose darted forward with a carefully aimed jab towards Hale's gut, hir four-legged lower body giving hir plenty of speed for the purpose. But a twist of her waist and a skip of her feet allowed Hale to deftly maneuver out of the way, her nimbleness not something a large taurform like a chakat would be able to easily reproduce.

Too bad, now you're committed and square in my reach, thought Hale, as she switched to a high roundhouse, expecting it to combine with the chakat's momentum to put the top of her foot into Cinderrose's head...

Only to pass through empty air. Cinderrose couldn't turn on a dime, but shi could still duck, and quickly enough to avoid Hale's kick.

Worse, kicking for a biped meant standing on only one leg, a disadvantage that the chakat had positioned hirself perfectly to take advantage of.

Aw, crapbaskets! thought Hale.
