A Blast From WAY Past
Going back to 1985, my contribution to John Cawley's "FoxHole" APA calendar back when I was still Margaret Schnepf. Pictured is Fallah from "Starflight" with her compatriot Tagar, trying to escape from some off-screen baddies.
In the days pre-Web, an Amateur Press Association fanzine- APA, or APAzine - was a nifty way to share your artwork with others and see what they were doing. FoxHole contained some amazing talent!
This scan is from the printed version of the calendar. The original was inked on Bristol board and finished with Zip-A-Tone. (What's Zip-A-Tone, you ask? Something that we used in the days of the dinosaurs, cut from large sheets and applied by hand to create grey scales or special pattern effects!)

I was going to mention the halftone stuff--I didn't know it was called Zip-A-Tone, but I rembemer that artists needed to cut or transfer the dots to their inked work "back in the day." It was a very labor-intensive procedure. Lettering was also done with rub-off transfers.
