This project was kind of put on hold when Time Tunnel started to take shape. Most of it was recorded before Time Tunnel, but it hung around waiting for me to add the bass track, which I've finally got around to.
I actually mixed this yesterday, but decided to do another take (1a) with a counterpoint added on the Moog.
I never was able to write a middle verse, so that's an instrumental one.
I may have been a bit too aggressive with the bass - it'll probably sound better with some mastering.
Equipment used:
TASCAM TSR-8 multitrack
Otari MX80 24-track studio recorder
Studer A807 1/4" master recorder
Moog Voyager, Steinberg XT2 bass
Roland MVS-1, Hammond XM1
Manikin Memotron, Behringer VC340
GEM RP-x piano, Cheetah MS6
Korg N1R, Waldorf MicroWave Mk1
Yamaha Reface CP, DSI OB-6
Roland JV1010, Alesis DM10
Korg M1R
============================
"If I was a rich man" - that's passe
Doesn't cut the mustard much today
But there's larger dreams to dream
If I was a...
Psychotically evil absolute monarch
...all the things that I could do!
No more corruption, no more lies
You'll do as I tell you if you're wise...
...and I have no time for fools.
No more elections, no more fluff
You'll do as I tell you - and that's tough
'Cause I'm writing all the rules
If I was a...
Psychotically evil absolute monarch
...all the things that I could do!
You will kneel before me, or if not
Get sent to the dungeons where you rot
You'll obey my every will
Citizens shall bow as I pass by
As I have decreed - or they shall die
I have time and lives to kill!
If I was a...
Psychotically evil absolute monarch
...Thank your lucky stars I'm not!

Thanks! And yeah, sometimes I only find out if there's a problem with the vocal range when I'm actually trying to record it. In a lot of cases I could change the key since most of the backing tracks are sequenced, but it's still a pain. I would have had to change the key to sing it comfortably because jumping up an octave definitely did not work.
Mhm. Shifting by an octave is mostly too much of a strech.
I also fall for this trap now and then. It's often makes much difference, when you first attempt to sing the song in the intended loudness. I (and probably most people) have a lot more dynamics at hand in my vocal comfort zone.
As of late I am trying more singing with acting involved, like musicals and stuff, which IMO makes it very important to vary in tone and intensity, which I find much easier within my comfort zone.
