I grew up playing a lot of Dragon Quest, and one trope I've always enjoyed is the Mimics and Canniboxes. More importantly, the aspect that an unassuming chest could reveal an unassuming enemy, that turns out to be a miniboss level threat.
I painted Lumice's existence a lot with this feeling. As such, he's strong. One thing that stands out is that he has the same level of strength and magical force, no matter what form he's in, so he could be easily unassuming, yet still be a powerful contender if it came down to a fight.
And being as cocky as he is, of course he has the rub it in, in the most grofworthy way possible.
