I finally wanted to get this off my chest. I don't have enough energy to be an artist which focuses on serious topics, but I can draw some things every once in a while. After that, I need to draw fun stuff again in order to recharge my vulnerable-little-bitch batteries.
Sadly, there are plenty more gender role bullshit moments out there. I just wanted to mention a few to get the point across.
We are stronger together than divided. We are stronger if we allow ourselves to live our lives in our individual styles, and stay respectful towards each other.
There is no less important gender when abuse and oppression happen.
What you got in your pants doesn't define what's in your heart and soul.

Gender roles were and always will be dumb, all those things becasue the world sees it as "normal".
It is why we have so much problems, starting with things like poor people, people dyeing of starvation in ther parts of the world becasue it was "always that way".
The world needs to be more open towards thigns, of course standards and certain rules are needed but leave people alone in there life choices who not bothers you or others with it, like there religion or what gender they like or like to be, it not affects you.
Who cares if lets say a gay couple lifes next to you, it not affects your or your own familys lifes, yet peopel act like the devil themself moved in next door as example.
Personally just sick of this forced "normal life".
I hope more people see those things like you do, those mini comic expressiosn it perfectly, a pic says more then 1000 words they say.

I know, right? In my opinion, it only makes sense if you state your gender when it comes things like health issues/treatment (topics like breast cancer on women, heart attacks on men, etc), sexual orientation... things like that.
But gender shouldn't be important when it comes to hobbies, interests, life styles, jobs, or even BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. There are still places out there were people don't have equal rights because of what they got in their pants.
The other day, I've even seen a shelter for victims of sexual abuse which only accepted women and children. Not men. That's messed up, especially for a first world country which sees itself above others.

while i mostly agree with you, the only reason i can think of to withhold such basic information about yourself, like gender, race, age, weight, etc, is fear of being judged for it. only way i see to convince people that gender =/= personality is to show them people who defy their gender roles. like if they don't know what you are, they will just assume that you are whatever fits the stereotype in their head. (and personally i'm obsessed with knowledge and learning, so i want to know as much as i can about people, and thus understand them better) but i do understand that you don't 'owe' people information about yourself if you don't intend to have a relationship with them. i just also feel that secrecy can get in the way of relationships that maybe weren't being looked for at the time, but would have still been wonderful.
and i think in that particular instance it's not that they don't want to help men, but that most of the women there are seeking refuge FROM men, so having them in the same space would be a bit problematic. not that women can't be terrible to eachother, or that men don't ever need refuge themselves, but while it is horrible, there IS a trend that has resulted in such facilities being needed. i figure if we can destroy that trend, the facilities and rights will balance out on their own with time. we just have to destroy these ideas that violence is a normal and even 'necessary' masculine trait, and that emotions and mental health are just for girls.

Thank you for your meaningful comment there!
I did not realize that maybe they did that to protect women and children abused my men, from meeting more men even if they are harmless. I thought they could still separate the victims from each other or something. Like they have each a room for themselves which they can lock and only let people in which are allowed to be with them. I don't know.

Thank you for this. I've been preaching this for years. I am a big, white, gay male and I teach middle school. I cannot tell you how many ignorant comment, dirty looks, and misrepresentations I have faced in the past few years because of people's misguided ideas and perceptions about what they think my gender, sexuality, and outward appearance says about me. I am honestly scared a lot of the time because if anyone ever so much as hints at something that matches up with those sorts of perceptions I am in a world of serious trouble, fast. Yet I am a responsible, good teacher with excellent boundaries and truly enjoy being a teacher. For some reason, some people think that's wrong and wonder what's wrong with me or think I have ulterior motives. I honestly have nightmares about it sometimes. It's horrible.
Shit, I cannot even imagine how stressful that is! x_x I wish I could say something to help you... de-stress your situation. I'm struggling with things myself.
The only thing I've noticed about bullying is that bullies are attracted to insecure people more than people who are chill and open about who they are. Patience is always important. If people hate you, simply avoid contact with them as often as you can. Don't feed their hate with more hate.
I respect a teacher who puts their passion and love into their work, because teaching is so important! Maybe it helps if you stick to this motivation; you are here to teach and spread love doing so, and not be discouraged by superficial people?

Hear hear! ^__^
Don't listen to others and try to dance after their tunes! You dance after your very own tune and be who ever you wanna be! :D
Sure, there are stereotypes and they'll probably stick around for a good while still, which is fine because some people want to live that way, but as long as people are open for change and differences the world is going to be a much more nice and colourful place to hang around ^_^
Very nicely illudtrated and compositioned!

Except for the last male one this all stinks of some genderstudies nonsense, where it blatantly screams how "Women are only victims" and how "Men are pressured by toxic masculinity". Modern western society doesn't force women to anything but if you were to look at Africa and the Middle East you would see actual inequality of such caliber, but of course pointing out this type of thing gets you labelled an [insert] buzzword thus any and all points made are autmatically swept away. Where did you get this from? Some Tumblr blog? A genderstudies degree? (waste of money might I add and will get you nothing in life). Society evolves in a specific way for a reason, there are defined roles but said roles are NOT enforced like in some third world hellhole. So please stop with this garbage ideological grandstanding and social brownie points begging...
I actually live in the first world country that is Switzerland, and have relatives in Germany too. A close friend (who's partly Italian) also visits Italy, Sicily, sometimes and shares her stories with me. That's all Middle Europe, not USA.
The things I mentioned in the comic are from my own and their life experiences, from both old people (+60 year old) and young people (+20 year old). I don't make up things for comics like this, those things are real, even if you have grown up in a different culture yourself.
Good for you if you don't have gender roles where you live. Where do you live?
By the way, I don't have Tumblr account and I'm not interested in that site either.

That is really a great and meaningful work you did here. Gender roles are just another obstacle for us to reach more equality. Everybody deserves respect and to be treated like a human, despite the gender, sexuality, origin and so on. We are all different, but that doesn't make one person less valuable than another. This is outdated thinking.
Unfortunately our world is still very patriarchic and lost in traditions that are outdated, so this thinking continues. But slowly people awake and the more just do what they want and live the life they want, the more will also accept equality. We need much more time, but I think we are on a promising way. Positivity is the best we have.
You should consider to buy some extra vulnerable-little-bitch batteries, because you created something really inspiring here. Great work and great message!

It just sucks that "being yourself" has so many labels stuck to it nowadays.
Do what feels right and apply the golden rule.
It's not feminism or gender role abolishing... it's common sense as well as compassion and empathy people are lacking, first and foremost.
As long as we don't get those, it'll be like pissing against the wind.

I agree with you.
Shit, I was raised in a stricly religious family. All the "you must do and must be" because you were either born with a penis or vagina was probably one of my first reasons why I'd quit later. Especially because they couldn't even answer my "why" questions with anything else than "Because that's the way it is/Because God said so."
"Why can't women be bishops/prophets/apostels/etc too?" "Because God said so."
"What is BAD and HARMFUL about a gay couple?" "Because God said it's bad."
"What is the harm in a person feeling like the other gender?" "Because that's against God's plan. And if you're against God's plan you're evil and sick in the head, no exception."
I see no difference between the Bible God and a dictator, seriously. "Do as I say and follow me only, or I will literally have you slaughtered and sent to hell for all eternity." Oh yeah, sounds like a very friendly, reasonable, mentally healthy, family person.
The other day, I met this bishop who strongly believed that humans are evil by nature and that only Christians can be good people. That you can't be a good person if you're not introduced to God and follow the Christian religion.
So apparently, I'm a fucking psychopath.

All theistic religions are obsolete as far as I'm concerned. There may be some... bits and lines here and there which may hold some occasional wisdom or philosophical value, but otherwise mostly rubbish nonsense. In any case, I never take it seriously... and for people who do, I take them with a grain of salt.
As for woman and men, I also would like to point out, however, that there are still disparities, but not only in terms of physiology, but also mentality.
Some say it purely based on society pressure/constructs, others say it's only and solely due to nature doing its thing.
I personally believe it's some of both. Society has this habit of putting pressure on what "normal" or "functional" should be which, depending where or how you were raised, can obviously stifle your personal development for the sake of "fitting in".
Differences in psychology and personalities due to gender and genetics which can bring about differences on society abroad on a macro scale should never trump one's individual rights to be who they want to be even if it goes contrary to what the bigger picture has to say.
One has to both respect and value such individuals in society. For without them, life would be as bland as a bowl of lukewarm oatmeal.
