YAY! I gots a secret santa piece done... just one more to go!
This was a pretty furry dragon-ish character named Vincule, belonging to Gpotious on DA. I had the option of picking one of three different characters, but I really liked this one. While I'm normally not super fond of lots of long hair (harder to shade for me), I really loved the combination of the red-orange and the turquoise-y color, and the tree extending from the back. I had a different pose in mind initially, but I really liked this one better.
Tried something different with shading- a little more cell-shading on the body with dual tones instead of one, and then I went wild with the mane. It was loads of fun! XD
Lots learned and yet still more to experiment with. :)

Oh, my hand shakes like crazy too. XD For me, I always have one hand on my tablet, and the other hover over the "E" button... I have to constantly shape my lines between brushing them out and erasing them again. That's why lineart is the hardest step for me in terms of getting anything completed. THANK GOD FOR LAYERS!
Thank you. :3
Thank you. :3
I'm more partial to a half-cell, half-soft shading method myself... nature's full of hard and soft shadows. I find that by doing a faux-cell shade first, than touching up with airbrush paint and eraser tools respectively, I get a much better, semi-natural effect. And any place I dislike the cellshading in, I can slightly cover up with a touch of a gradiented airbrush. :3 I HAZ SO MANY FLAWS, BUT YOU CAN'T SEE THEM CUZ THEY HIDE LIKE NINJAS! XDDD
