And here our first child, a daughter, is born to us.

Birth

The due date for the baby to be born had been guessed pretty accurately. The moment Saya knew was when her contractions began, just like she had been told about. “It’s really time…” the bat whispered, feeling more excited and happy than nervous. Nicholas quickly called the hospital to let them know they were coming. They had met with the ones who would help beforehand and they were ready for the soon-to-be parents at the entrance. The fosky led his wife in and she looked to her husband with a glowing happy smile.

“You’re going to do great love,” the male told her and they shared a kiss. While the paper work was being done, her husband went ahead to call the family members and friends to let them know the baby was coming. He was just as excited for this as Saya.

They were admitted into the room. Two minutes later, Saya’s water broke. The timing couldn’t have been better. The bat was given meds to help her through the pain of the birthing process. The doctor and the few others who would help with the delivery were there, guiding Saya. Nicholas told her during the pushing that she was doing wonderful. “You’ve got this honey,” he said, holding her hands.

It wasn’t easy for the bat but every push meant it was getting closer to the end. During a pause between the pushing, she looked to her husband with a nervous, but happy smile. “Now I know how it was for my mom…” the bat said.

“It’ll be worth it,” he whispered to his wife and kissed her forehead.

Then at last the doctor spoke. “The child’s almost out. One more and were done.”

Saya gave it her all and then the child came out much to the delight of those helping. Saya and Nicholas saw the body squirming a little and being cleaned up. Then the baby’s mouth opened and let out its first cry. In that moment Saya felt a new emotion in her body. It was a glowing warm feeling, one of love, that only a mother could feel for her child. She began to cry tears of happiness as she looked to the child; hers and Nicholas’s. He in the meantime felt the happiest he had ever felt. “It’s a girl,” the doctor said.

“Siena… our daughter…” the fosky whispered. Saya just held out her arms.

“Let me see her…” she managed to say through her tears.

The new parents looked to see that Siena did have her mother’s wings. The little one also had most of the bat’s features. A small amount of purple hair could be seen on her head. Her fur color was the same light purple. Even the tail, ear shape, and eye color were the same. But the nose and inside of the ears were more like Nicholas’s with the color being white. “Oooooh hello…” Saya cooed, still crying those tears of happiness, holding Siena close to her heart.

“She’s so beautiful,” the fosky whispered. “Oh, you did great dear.” The two kissed. Siena began to cry again.

“Awww it’s okay…” the new mother whispered. “You’re okay… you’re so beautiful…”

“You’re fine…” the new father said softly, kissing his daughter’s tiny forehead. He began to sing in the same volume. “Cause you’re daddy’s girl… daddy’s girl…”

Siena stopped crying and opened her eyes, looking up at the fosky. “Oooooohhh she knows who you are…” Saya cried. Nicholas kissed his daughter on the forehead again.

“We love you baby girl,” he whispered. Soon the visitors came in and Siena had settled down after being fed by the bat. They all cooed that Siena was so cute. Elaine cried like her daughter and Nicholas’s family felt very happy for him and his wife. But Saya was the happiest of all. Seeing her daughter brought that motherly instinct out in the bat. She loved Siena already and couldn’t bear to be without the child. And Nicholas loved both of them equally. Now life really would begin for the new mother and father with their precious little one.
