Encounter in the Forgotten Valley [Comic]
Working on some world-building for my story setting. Admittedly, I don't have anything concrete with the energy-pyramid in the back. There are some types of ancient ruins I've developed but I haven't finalized anything for that particular type of structure. Not sure if I'll really use it; or in the very least it'll be repurposed for some other usage or location.
What's going on in this scene? I imagine Jathan was tasked with protecting Rahel along with his unit. After being separated due to an environmental danger. Rahel stubbornly went on ahead despite the dangers, determined to make it to the hidden temple first before a competing group of researchers arrived. Jathan begrudgingly accompanied.
Just as the duo were exiting the forest-barrier, the two were ambushed by a trailing group of mercenaries, determined to stop Jathan and Rahel from reaching their destination and keep the path clear for their employers.
Rahel forcibly took Jathan's knife mounted on his shoulder harness, arming herself and preparing her elemental magic. Jathan ignited his hard-light energy blade and prepared for battle, giving words of concentration at the task ahead, oblivious to the actual skill and prowess his companion possessed.
To Rahel, however, Jathan is nothing but a tool to her own machinations and is expendable. Jathan, like the attackers, is also a mercenary and so his loyalties shift depending on what his guild conscripts him to do or to follow.
