I would think that in an age where magic is common, as much as archers and soldiers would be part of naval combat, so too would magic users, in summoning havoc for the enemy, with the likes of magic fireballs, lightning, and so on to destroy the enemy ships. This angle also gives a good look at the comfort in which the six most important officers on the ship live in, as the stern is made up of their large grand cabins. From the bottom up, the cabins would belong to the fleet's Admiral, vice admiral, rear admiral, commodore, captain and first lieutenant, or commander, if available.
